UH306 is the third seed-propagated Dendrobium cut flower cultivar released by the University of Hawaii. It is a cross between an inbred plant of Jaquelyn Thomas UH44 strain and a tetraploid Neo Hawaii (Y972) which arose from meristem culture. The hybrid has larger and whiter flowers than UH44 and rarely exhibits the undesirable distortion of sprays (racemes) commonly encountered in the tetraploid Neo Hawaii parent. Since UH306 is a cross between Jaquelyn Thomas and Neo Hawaii, the hybrid progeny name is Jaq-Hawaii.

Table 1 shows the comparison in yields between UH306 and UH44. In each of the three years from 1976 to 1978 the yield of UH306 was higher than that of the UH44. Also the monthly yield of UH306 was higher than that of the UH44. Also the monthly yields of UH306 for the three years were spread throughout the year.

Some of the important floral characteristics of UH306 and UH44 are shown in Table 2. In practically all characteristics UH306 was superior to UH44. Of particular significance is the whiter flower of UH306.
